The Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi is preparing to move into a purpose-built venue from January 2027. The building was designed by the late Frank Gehry, the architect known for his pioneering work in contemporary design, and will give the ensemble a permanent base for its rehearsals and performances.
A purpose-built home for collective music-making
The new facility will include a 600-seat concert hall and 18 rehearsal and practice rooms. Together, these spaces are intended to offer a professional-standard environment in which young players can rehearse and perform as an ensemble, rather than relying on shared or temporary premises.
Training across two musical traditions
Over the coming years, the program plans to train young musicians in both Western classical and Arabic musical traditions. The approach reflects a deliberate effort to connect students with the regional musical heritage alongside the European orchestral repertoire that forms the core of most youth orchestras.
Expanding opportunities for advanced students
Additional ensembles for advanced students are scheduled to be introduced during the first year of the program. These groups will give the most experienced participants further chances to develop their skills, and the institution is expected to become an integral part of the emirate's music and performing arts landscape.
